Jaiswal Hits Century as India A Dominate Opening Day

India A established early dominance on the opening day of the third unofficial Test in Lincoln on Saturday, November 7, marking a stark improvement from their previous performance at the venue. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal continued his excellent form by striking a century, while his partner Sai Sudharsan anchored the innings with an unbeaten 77. The pair put together a substantial 175-run opening stand that kept the visitors in control until rain forced an early conclusion to play midway through the 70th over. Who backed up his unbeaten 155 in Christchurch with another hundred, while Sai Sudharsan remained unbeaten on 77, leading the way was Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Despite India A being asked to bat first after losing the toss, the visitors utilized the opportunity to integrate key personnel including Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, and Prasidh Krishna ahead of the upcoming Test series. Early moisture provided some assistance for the New Zealand A pacers, leading to a cautious start from the Indian openers. Jaiswal adopted an aggressive approach to countering the swing, frequently stepping out of his crease to disrupt the bowlers. Most notably in the form of Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja and Prasidh Krishna with an eye on the Test series beginning November 19, the visitors rang in multiple changes. Unlike the senior white-ball team, India A’s luck with the toss continued to be a wretched one as they were asked to bat first. They looked to score whenever opportunities presented themselves, there was some assistance for the pacers and while Jaiswal and Sudharsan started slowly.
Jaiswal accelerated his scoring pace after the first hour, notably striking three boundaries in a single over from Jarrod McKay. Although he experienced some anxious moments on 49, he managed to reach his half-century shortly after the break. A significant turning point occurred when Matthew Boyle dropped a straightforward slip catch with Jaiswal on 54. The batter capitalized on the reprieve, immediately responding with three consecutive fours and a subsequent six off Zak Gibson. But he creamed one to the fence to bring up his fifty, there were some nervy moments at the start of the second session as Jaiswal was beaten thrice on 49. A pivotal moment in the game saw Matthew Boyle put down a straightforward chance at slip with Jaiswal on 54.
While Jaiswal maintained a brisk scoring rate, Sudharsan provided a steady presence at the other end, laboring through 129 deliveries to reach his own fifty. Jaiswal eventually raised his hundred off 127 balls with back-to-back boundaries. Soon after reaching the milestone, he required medical attention for apparent cramps and was eventually dismissed for 102 when he chipped a catch to mid-off.
Following the tea interval, the scoring rate tapered off as Devdutt Padikkal settled in. Padikkal struggled to find his rhythm and was eventually dismissed for 15, edging an attempted drive off McKay. Shortly after skipper Dhruv Jurel struck a boundary, inclement weather stopped play for the day. For the hosts, Danru Ferns proved to be the most effective bowler, conceding only 16 runs across 10 overs while claiming the wicket of Jaiswal. The scorecard stood at 227/2 at the close of play.
