Saudi-Led Coalition Reports Interception of Five Drones

The Saudi-led coalition announced on Wednesday that its forces successfully intercepted five drones aimed at the kingdom. Coalition spokesman Turki al-Malki stated via social media that four of the unmanned aircraft were destroyed initially in the Eastern region and Medina. Shortly thereafter, al-Malki confirmed that a fifth drone had been neutralized, also within the Eastern territory. According to al-Malki, who did not specify who was behind the launches, later, Another drone had been intercepted, also in the Eastern region.

These incidents follow a period of heightened hostilities, including a recent, deadly attack on Riyadh’s international airport. The regional escalation involves frequent strikes attributed to the Iran-backed Houthi movement. The mention of Medina is particularly significant, as the city houses the Prophet’s Mosque and serves as one of Islam’s most sacred sites alongside Mecca—locations the Houthis have historically pledged to avoid targeting.

In response to the coalition’s claims, Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree issued a formal denial.

Saree stated that the group conducted no military operations against Saudi Arabia on Wednesday and specifically rejected allegations that any drones were directed toward the holy city of Medina. This conflict continues to intensify as both sides offer conflicting accounts of the ongoing drone activity near major Saudi population and cultural centers.
