Mumbai Indians Revamp Coaching Setup With Departure of Malinga and Mhambrey

Mumbai Indians have continued their extensive staff restructuring by parting ways with a trio of key coaches. Bowling specialists Lasith Malinga and Parash Mhambrey, alongside fielding coach Carl Hopkinson, have left the organization. This follows the franchise’s recent decision to move on from former head coach Mahela Jayawardene, with Kieron Pollard subsequently stepping into that top leadership position. They have let go a few others, days after parting with head coach Mahela Jaywardene.
The Legacy of Lasith Malinga
In a formal statement regarding the departures, the franchise honored Malinga’s long-standing connection to the club. “Lasith Malinga has been an integral part of the Mumbai Indians family and one of the most iconic figures in the franchise’s history,” the team noted. “From spearheading MI’s bowling attack and playing a defining role in four IPL title triumphs and the 2011 Champions League T20 victory, to returning as a mentor and coach, Lasith’s journey with MI has been truly special. His passion, competitive spirit and commitment to the team have inspired generations of players. His legacy will forever remain an important part of Mumbai Indians.”
Coaching Tenure of Mhambrey
Parash Mhambrey’s exit concludes a stint that began after his tenure as part of India’s T20 World Cup-winning setup in 2024. During his time with the franchise, he contributed to two IPL seasons and held the role of bowling coach for MI Emirates.
