Mike Hussey Accepts Expanded Coaching Role With Australian National Team

Mike Hussey has been appointed to a significant new position within the Australian cricket setup, taking on consultant coaching duties for two of the nation’s premier upcoming events. He will serve as a consultant for the 2027 Ashes series and the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup. Furthermore, Hussey has been named the side’s T20 advisor, a role that will span the upcoming cycle leading toward the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and the 2028 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Mike has extensive T20 experience and we look forward to the impact that he will have on the team as we prepare for the LA Olympics and T20 World Cup in 2028.

This appointment follows the conclusion of Hussey’s eight-year tenure as the batting coach for the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL, a role he held from 2018 until his departure this year as part of a franchise coaching restructure. His new tenure with Australia begins later this month as the team prepares to host England for a T20I series, with additional duties assisting preparations for the upcoming Test series against New Zealand. The appointment comes soon after Hussey’s eight-year stint as CSK’s batting coach came to an end.

Cricket Australia has defined the scope of his T20 responsibilities as wide-ranging, encompassing campaign strategy, performance analysis, opposition intelligence, and player scouting. Hussey, who previously contributed to England’s 2022 T20 World Cup victory as part of their coaching staff, expressed enthusiasm for his formal return to the national fold.
