Stage and Screen Icon Patrick Stewart Dies at 86

Patrick Stewart, a classically trained actor celebrated for his extensive Shakespearean repertoire and commanding screen presence, has died in Los Angeles at age 86. His representative, Kelly Bush Novak, confirmed that he passed away on Wednesday after experiencing what she described as a brief and poignant journey with Lewy Body Dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.

Though Stewart achieved global recognition for his portrayal of Captain Jean-Luc Picard in the Star Trek: The Next Generation series and as Professor Charles Xavier in the X-Men films, the majority of his career was defined by his work on stage. His theatre credits included performances ranging from Macbeth to Claudius, as well as solo renditions of A Christmas Carol. He also collaborated frequently with Ian McKellen on notable West End and Broadway productions, including Samuel Beckett’s Waiting for Godot and Harold Pinter’s No Man’s Land.
