Abu Dhabi’s Liwa Desert has once again returned to the global stage as the primary filming location for the fictional planet Arrakis in the highly anticipated conclusionDune: Part Three. The production, directed by Denis Villeneuve, highlights the UAE’s growing reputation as a premier destination for major Hollywood blockbusters. And this time, they are the backdrop to a spectacular betrayal, dubai: Abu Dhabi’s golden dunes are back in the Hollywood spotlight. There’s another reason to be excited, and for UAE movie buffs. Villeneuve, however, appears to have other plans. Dubai marks new world records with giant gold earrings. Art Foundation in Abu Dhabi celebrates Lebanese art.
The latest footage confirms that the film is set 19 years after the events of Dune: Part Two. While Dune Messiah takes place 12 years after the original novel, Villeneuve has extended the gap to 19 years, allowing Paul’s increasingly brutal reign to cast a longer shadow over the story.
Paul Atreides, played by Timothée Chalamet, is no longer the reluctant hero of the previous chapters. There’s a storm brewing in the world of Paul Atreides, but beyond the stunning desert landscapes.
Having conquered numerous worlds to become the Padishah Emperor, Paul has evolved into a formidable and oppressive ruler.
In a striking shift, the trailer features Paul using The Voice to interrogate his political spouse, Princess Irulan, regarding an assassination conspiracy.
Most notably, Chani, portrayed by Zendaya, appears to be an active participant in this plot against him. Their relationship, once marked by loyalty, has fractured into open hostility. During the teaser, Paul admits, “I’ve become the oppressor Chani swore to fight,” to which she responds by branding him a traitor. This narrative choice marks a significant departure from Frank Herbert’s novelDune Messiahwhere Chani remains steadfastly devoted to Paul. It’s quite the fall from grace for a man once hailed as a messiah. Zendaya and Tom Holland’s wedding after Dune 3.
The drama further intensifies with the introduction of Robert Pattinson as Scytale, a mysterious conspirator plotting against the throne.
The footage also hints at the potential return of Duncan Idaho and features Anya Taylor-Joy in a significant, blood-drenched sequence. These elements, combined with the extended 19-year timeline, suggest a darker, more politically charged finale than the original source material, where the line between savior and tyrant has vanished.
