Ervine and Taylor Power Zimbabwe to 99-Run Win

Zimbabwe claimed a commanding 99-run victory over Bangladesh in the opening match of the ODI tri-series at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. After opting to bat first, Zimbabwe found themselves in early trouble at 24 for 3 within seven overs as Taskin Ahmed dismantled the top order by removing Brian Bennett, Ben Curran, and Tafadzwa Tsiga.
A resilient fourth-wicket partnership of 150 runs between veterans Craig Ervine and Brendan Taylor steered the innings back on track. Ervine anchored the side with a top score of 93 off 106 balls, while Taylor contributed a composed 81 from 101 deliveries. Following their departure, late contributions from Newman Nyamhuri and Wellington Masakadza, who both finished unbeaten on 21, propelled Zimbabwe to a competitive total of 271 for 8. Taskin Ahmed led the Bangladeshi bowling effort with 3 for 44, supported by Saif Hassan and Shoriful Islam, who each picked up two wickets. Veterans Craig Ervine (93) and Brendan Taylor (81) pulled Zimbabwe out of a hole with a 150-run stand to help post a respectable 271/8 before the bowlers choked Bangladesh inside 34 overs. Late cameos from lower-order batters Newman Nyamhuri (21* off 17) and Wellington Masakadza (21* off 15) propelled Zimbabwe to a competitive total of 271 for 8 in their allotted 50 overs. Picking up 3 for 44 in his 10 overs, while Saif and Shoriful Islam chipped in with two apiece, taskin was the standout bowler for Bangladesh. Brief scores: Zimbabwe 271/8 in 50 overs (Craig Ervine 93, Brendan Taylor 81; Taskin Ahmed 3-44) beat Bangladesh 172 all out in 33.4 overs (Tanzid Hasan Tamim 46; Brad Evans 4-45, Wellington Masakadza 2-18) by 99 runs.
Bangladesh began their chase aggressively, led by Tanzid Hasan Tamim’s 46 off 38 balls. The momentum shifted once Blessing Muzarabani claimed the wicket of Soumya Sarkar and Nyamhuri dismissed Tanzid in the tenth over. The Bangladeshi middle and lower order struggled to sustain any pressure against the Zimbabwean attack. In response, Bangladesh got off to an aggressive start through Tanzid Hasan Tamim, who struck a quickfire 46 off 38 balls with nine boundaries and a six. However, once Blessing Muzarabani removed Soumya Sarkar for 9 and Newman Nyamhuri dismissed Tanzid in the tenth over, Bangladesh suffered a collapse.
Brad Evans proved lethal, dismantling the batting lineup to finish with figures of 4 for 45. Spinners Wellington Masakadza and Sikandar Raza maintained control by sharing three wickets between them. Despite a 32-run ninth-wicket stand between Rishad Hossain and Taskin, Bangladesh were eventually bowled out for 172 in just 33.4 overs. The final match summary saw Zimbabwe at 271/8, comfortably outpacing their opponents to secure the win. But it was too little too late for Bangladesh, the best partnership they could manage thereafter was of 32 runs between Rishad Hossain and Taskin for the ninth wicket.
