Trump declares victory in Iran conflict, predicts oil price drop

U.S. President Donald Trump stated on the 27th regarding military operations against Iran, “In my view, we will very soon win this war,” adding, “and oil prices will drop significantly.” In an interview with Fox News released that day, Trump emphasized, “From a military perspective, we have already essentially won,” and “We are not saying we will stop (additional attacks), but we are definitely winning very big,” as he explained. Trump, who rejected Iran’s so-called ‘seven-day plan’ for reopening the Strait of Hormuz the previous day, signaled that additional talks could occur as early as this week.

Trump asserted on the same day, “The core of everything is that Iran must never possess nuclear weapons,” expressing confidence in victory over Iran both economically and militarily. In an Axios interview, Trump noted, “They (Iran) want to reach an agreement,” while criticizing Iran for making “excessive demands.” When asked about resuming attacks on Iran, he responded, “I am always thinking about it.” Axios cited multiple Middle East-based sources to report that indirect negotiations between the U.S. and Iran could take place as early as the 28th. However, Iran prioritizes reopening the strait, while the U.S. focuses on Iran abandoning its nuclear program, leaving it uncertain whether the two sides can bridge their differences.

Mike Waltz, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, criticized Iran’s seven-day plan proposal on NBC, calling it a “highly cynical attempt” aimed at securing sanctions relief, lifting the U.S. blockade, and accessing billions of dollars in frozen assets. He added, “Given that they tried this just months ago, it’s common sense that the president does not trust them much this time.” Waltz emphasized that any agreement must address Iran’s highly enriched uranium and potential restoration of enrichment capabilities, stating, “Our negotiation team even proposed selling them uranium.” He noted that Trump would “keep all options on the table, including resuming military strikes.”

Meanwhile, regarding calls to ‘slow down’ on artificial intelligence (AI), Trump said, “We are leading and building facilities worth trillions of dollars,” asking, “Why should we give that up?” He added, “I am not worried,” describing it as “an industrial revolution, perhaps even bigger.” Trump, who visited the Presidents Cup venue in Illinois to encourage athletes, was reported to have a private dinner with Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, at the White House. It was noted that Amodei had not attended the state dinner for Chinese President Xi Jinping on the 24th, after which Trump personally invited him to the dinner.
